Small in Stature, Mighty in Presence: Ponies Illuminate Opening Day at Devon

Tuesday evening unmistakably belonged to the ponies. Under the glow of the lights, the Pony Division delivered one of the most charming and competitive showcases of opening day — a parade of foals, fillies, colts, mares, and mature ponies who proved, yet again, that brilliance comes in every size.
This year’s results also revealed deeper stories: breeding programs hitting their stride, handlers shaping young talent with quiet expertise, and owner‑breeders stepping confidently into the ring. The Pony Division didn’t just crown champions — it highlighted the people behind them.
Pony Foal Championship
The youngest equine competitors of the show stepped into the ring with all the wide‑eyed promise Devon fans adore. Starberry Je Suis Prêt, a 2026 Morgan colt bred, owned, and presented by Lindsey Berry, captured the Championship title with balance, elasticity, and a maturity beyond his age.
Reserve honors went to Heaven in Hiding RG, presented by Gali Rogers, whose correctness and bright expression signaled a future worth watching.
Pony Filly Championship
Elegance and lift defined the filly division, where young mares moved as though they already understood the significance of the Dixon Oval.
Ffrewyn Roulette, a 2025 Welsh Pony handled by Tyra Wiegers, claimed the Championship with expressive movement and undeniable presence. Bred by Jennifer McKeen, Roulette represents the strength of Welsh pony breeding showcased annually in the Kickapoo Ponies classes.
Reserve Champion Elysians Eureka, presented by Nicodemus Aristaeus, showed poise and polish in the Dixon Oval. As both breeder and handler, Aristaeus brought forward an owner‑led partnership.
Pony Colt & Gelding Championship
Neverever, a 2024 German Riding Pony handled by Shane Diel, claimed the colt and gelding title with a commanding presence, building on his 2025 Reserve Championship in the Young Pony Championship
Reserve honors went to Twisted Oak Eclipse, a 2024 Welsh colt presented by Jessica Axelsson, whose balanced, expressive performance underscored the depth of quality in this year’s lineup.
Pony Mare Championship
Experience met elegance in the mare division. Deenah AT, a 2021 German Riding Pony handled by Shane Diel, secured the Championship.
Deenah AT, owned by Heidi Humphrey, made an impressive showing across multiple divisions — producing top ponies from foalhood through maturity. Few breeders can claim such breadth, and Humphrey’s ponies continue to thrive under Diel’s expert presentation.
Reserve Champion Motion Granted, presented by Allison Hines, impressed with elasticity and poise, adding depth to a class rich with variety and quality.
Dressage at Devon Pony Grand Championship

The pinnacle of the Pony Division brought together champions from across the evening for a final, thrilling display of pony excellence.
Mutsaards Winston, a 2021 New Forest Pony handled by Kaitlin Blythe, claimed the Devon Pony Grand Championship with a performance that captured everything Devon celebrates: type, movement, and undeniable presence.
New Forest Ponies rarely take the Devon Grand Championship, adding a refreshing twist to this year’s results.
Reserve Champion honors went to Deenah AT, whose consistency and star quality carried through every class she entered.
Additional finalists included Neverever, Twisted Oak Eclipse, Sonstral FM, and Ffrewyn Roulette, rounding out a championship lineup rich with diversity and promise.
Parade of Breeds: Tradition Meets Celebration
Sponsored by Select Breeders Services

The Parade of Breeds added color and heritage to the evening, with pony representatives earning particular admiration from spectators. Their presence underscored the breadth of pony breeding programs represented at Devon — from Welsh and German Riding Ponies to New Forest and Fjord ponies — each contributing to the tapestry of excellence celebrated in this beloved tradition.
A Devon Evening to Remember
As twilight settled over the showgrounds, the Pony Division left its unmistakable mark on opening day — a blend of youthful promise, polished performances, and the kind of magic that only Devon can deliver. From homebred foals making their first appearance to seasoned mares stepping confidently into the spotlight, the ponies proved once again that they are an essential thread in the fabric of Dressage at Devon.
